About Us
OVERVIEW
The eco-zine is a digital magazine that focuses on the three pillars of sustainability (economic, social, environmental). The team activates community engagement through content submissions from students, interviewing local pioneers of environmental sustainability, selling anthologies of Eco-Zine works and donating those sales to leading environmental conservation initiatives, as well as advertising and funding environmental sustainability solutions. The Eco-zine increases
engagement in community events such as engineering projects, local sustainable food festivals, and school-wide awareness campaigns, as well as allowing students to take part in environmental conservation from the safety of their homes. With students persistent in their quest for a better world leading this project, we hope to create a sense of community that impacts the environment in a positive way by increasing the awareness of environmental protection. Despite the new restrictions in place, we hope to use the digital world to make a difference.
OUR GOAL
Our goal is to integrate the three pillars of sustainability into one platform that can be accessed and collaborated on from the safety of home, as well as further eco-initiatives. This project will serve as a foundation for exposure to environmental sustainability facts, community action projects, student discussion and display of artworks, writings, research, and designs. This platform will connect students to environmental sustainability projects and ideas, and will be used to educate people about the importance of the environment. Funds acquired from sales will be donated to local initiatives-
hitting on the economic pillar. Social sustainability will be achieved by interviewinglocals and experts about their culture, work, and expertise. The environmental pillar will be tapped into through educative content, events, and implementation of environmental engineering solutions. The Eco-council will partner with the media club, sports clubs, and entire student body to deliver the content and prepare events. The coordinator will use personal contacts in the community to facilitate the acquisition of materials and distribution of the content to the community.
IMPACTS
We will know the project has been successful when the content for the Eco-zine has been published and the Eco-engineering project has been funded and created/implemented. We will demonstrate its success through the hosting of an Eco food festival where we will showcase the projects, writings, artworks, and other content related to environmental sustainability as well as engage in panel discussions led by students related to finding solutions to environmental issues in our local community.
COMMUNICATION
The very nature of our initial project idea is communicative. We plan to regularly publish our eco-zine on a bi-monthly basis, communicating to the greater community and to our student community the needs of the environment, local and international communities, as well as the issues that most affect our student population. We will use social media and word of mouth advertising to promote sales of our final eco-zine anthology.
